Cathy DiToro: She’s got the best of both worlds

Who knew that a counselor can handle two careers at once? Cathy DiToro can, counselor at WS by day and singer-song writer at night.
For the past 10 years, DiToro has been working on her music career in the popular genres of pop and rap. The background of playing piano and twangs of guitar scales is in DiToro’s musical DNA, the inherited talent of being a musician was no question for DiToro to pursue a career in the musical arts.
“Both of my parents were musicians; my dad played the guitar and my mom was a piano teacher. They both met in a choir,” said DiToro.
Since the age of two, DiToro has been singing all her life about influences that she has brought with her in adulthood.
“I learned to play the guitar from my dad and the piano from my mom,” said DiToro. With the knowledge of playing piano and guitar, DiToro also received a marvelous gift to sing.
DiToro’s musical style is a mixture of various genres, “I am a singer-song writer who sings about life experiences, [as well as] the type’s of songs on 99.5; pop, rap, and the top 40’s,” said DiToro.
One of her musical influences was Gwen Stefani and Stefani’s 90’s band No Doubt. Stefani is known for her special musical career in pop culture. With the inspiring method of listening to Stefani, DiToro worked up the courage to perform live at her high school’s talent show, all thanks to the inspiration of her favorite pop singer and band. DiToro’s high school band was called; Cathy DiToro, she was the singer and guitarist.
“I was 18 years old and it was the first time I performed live with my band. It was a turning point [to start my musical career]” said DiToro. The nervous shaking of hands, the cold sweat breaking over her forehead, thousands of eyes and ears; watching and listening to her sing could send anyone into a panic. But with the confidence she bestowed, DiToro dominated and the crowd applauded to her courage and exceptional talent.
Ever since that day, DiToro has been singing and performing in the D.C. area. Her musical talent has been able to become a second successful career for her. It is as if she is a super hero, helping students by day and performing her songs at night.
Nothing can stand in DiToro’s way to thrive in music. The support of her family and friends is greatly helpful for DiToro to pick up her career in the musical arts. Many talents await future men and women of our time, but very few will figure out what they truly want to do. Taking the chance to chase one’s dreams is vital to one’s personality.
“[Music] is part of who I am [what is it that is a part of you?],” said DiToro.
