Show the referees respect

Yelling at the referees can hurt our Spartan teams

School sporting events are a great way to meet new people, hang out with old friends and show some school spirit but when a close call happens stay calm and carry on.
On a week night when there’s nothing to do at home many people find themselves going to the bleachers and cheering on their class mates  but when a close call does not go your way fans need to remember to be respectful and let the coach deal with the close call. At any sporting event the crowd is an important aspect to team moral, but when the fan changes from supporting their team to putting down the other or the referees, it can have negative effects on the home team.
When the crowd “Boos” and curses at the referees it does not make the referee want to change the call or give other close calls to your team. Even if some people start to harass the referees, you do not have to and it is better for your team and you if you do not jeer the referee.
Furthermore, the best way to show support for your team is to cheer for the school team.  Most athletes play better with the support of a home crowd. The energy that fans give off, allow athletes to calm their nerves, stay relaxed and play the game as best they can.  To an athlete, support from the crowd means everything and negativity turns against the home team.
In sports, there will always be calls that could go both ways, sometimes they help out the home team and sometimes they hurt the home team, and if the crowd is insulting the referee they will always hurt the home team.  If you were a referee and the crowd started booing you would you change the call? Some of the hardest things for anyone to do are to admit they are wrong and if you give the referee any reason to not change the call then the referee will not change the call.  If you must express negativity try whispering it to a friend or to yourself. Also you can leave your seat and express your frustration in the hall.

As a fan it is your duty to be respectful, cheer for your team and, stay into the game.  Everybody goes to sporting event to have fun; do not let vulgarity and insults ruin the game for others.
