Spartan girls lacrosse puts the ‘lax’ in relax

Girls Lacrosse showed some domination at Disney over spring break, going undefeated in all three of their games at the Disney Spring Training Tournament.
The Lady Spartans have traveled down to Florida to compete in the tourney for the last two years, and this year they came in hoping to improve their performance from last year after only losing one game in the 2013 trip. The tourney itself hosts teams from across the nation, meaning the team had to face a variety of steep competition.
“We knew there were going to be teams from all over the place, so not knowing how good the competition meant it was important for us to keep in mind that we had to be prepared for pretty much anything,” said junior and 3rd year varsity player Allison Davis.
The Lady Spartans played teams from New Jersey, Florida and even Connecticut, winning by significant margins in each game.
“We expected good competition, so being able to win all of our games was kind of a confidence booster going into the rest of the season,” said junior Sadie Shroeder.
The trip wasn’t just all about winning games and practicing though, the team was able to have a bit of fun while away by spending their down time team bonding at Disney World and Cocoa Beach (not to mention some quality bonding sessions on their 12 hour bus rides).
“It was almost like a vacation, and spending so much of our time together really improved our team chemistry, which translated with how well we played and worked together on the field,” said senior Amy Berglund. “It was honestly so much fun I didn’t want it to end”
Having fun in the sun on their week-long trip in Florida has allowed the Lady Spartans to really excel this season by connecting to become a closer knit and unified team.
“We got to meet the Disney Princesses together, watch fireworks and spend some time at the beach too. It was great really getting a chance to know each other more while having such an amazing time in the process,” said Shroeder. “Aside from playing the games my favorite part was probably just hanging out with everyone.”
The boost of team morale and positivity is what proved to be the biggest success from the trip on and off the field.
“Being able to joke around with each other and have a lot of laughs is what really made the trip so great, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience,” said Berglund.
