Spartans once again put some pep in their step

“WE ARE SPARTANS!”
Decked out in blue, orange, white and grey, the student body chanted and cheered its way through another pep rally. The Leadership class added a couple of new spirit-inducing touches to the annual Spring fling.
“As a senior, this was the last pep rally for me and my class to deck out in blue Spartan gear,” said senior Michaela Park, “and for my last pep rally, I think I can really say that I had a great time.”
Because winter weather conspired to close school, organizers only had a small window to get all their plans in place.
“I just think with all the snow days, it made [planning the pep rally] really rushed and it wasn’t as organized as it was in the past because we didn’t have enough time,” said senior Kelsey Kirkman.
But even with the shortage of time, we were entertained with a new version of the Mr. Spartan contest and a reprisal of the Male Drill Team’s shenanigans.
The pep rally also showcased Spring Sports.
“I don’t mean to sound biased but I thought the best part of the pep rally was when the boys lacrosse walked out,” said senior Jake O’Connell, who plays LAX.
A few glitches happened here and there, but most Spartans said they enjoyed the new touches, such as the ability to text in votes for Mr. Spartan. And, of course, some of the younger students didn’t really understand the Mr. Spartan contest, since we haven’t hosted the competition for three years.
“The whole planning was very stressful, but overall I think the pep rally went really smoothly and I feel like everyone was really satisfied with how it turned out,” said senior Will Ballard.
The idea of changing the bell schedule so that the pep rally was at the end of the day received props from students and teachers. And the pumped up participants also commented on the positive vibes in the Main Gym, as Spartan Spirit ran through the crowd.
“I love school spirit, seeing everyone dressed in blue, orange, white, and grey,” said Assistant Activities Director Betsy Fawsett, who helped Leadership plan, “so I was really happy to see everyone excited.”
