They shine bright like a DECA diamond

DECA dominates at Districts once again with winners across the board.
In November, WS DECA competed in the District Leadership Conference with over 20 competitors placing first through third in Testing, Role-Plays, and Overall. Notable first place performances include those from senior Cole Rosenberger in Business Finance Series for testing and role-plays, sophomore Madison Brock in Business Service Marketing Series for role-plays, and junior Rida Khan in Marketing Management Series for testing.
“I medaled in 2012, which was really great,” Khan said, “and my goal is to do better than I did last year.”
WS DECA consistently places high at competitions, and the chances are good for many members to compete at International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia this year.
“[Competitions are] really fun events where you get to meet new people from a lot of different places,” said sophomore Ben Lowry, who placed third at districts in Automotive Services Management.
DECA events, like leadership conferences and trips to sports games, help their members learn business social skills and networking capabilities while just seeming like fun gatherings with peers.
This leadership club “prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe,” according to DECA.org. With these skills, members enter role-plays and testing situations starting at the district level all the way up to the nationals to compete against other DECA members from high schools across the country.
“We have a good set of competitors that could do really well [at States] and we’ll hopefully have an even bigger group going to Nationals that last year,” said senior Cole Rosenberger.
While they celebrated their accomplishments at districts, the competitors are already preparing for the State competition in Virginia Beach in February, and ICDC in April with DECA members from across the US.
“I feel good about everyone’s chances this year because we have great teachers that will have us prepared by the time we compete at ICDC,” said Lowry.
With a hopeful mindset and a knowledgeable team, we hope to see WS DECA place well at ICDC like years in the past.
“I’m personally invested in the team this year and I want everyone to do well,” said Khan.
