Spider-Man swings back into action

Look out; here comes the Spider-Man…again! “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” the thrilling continuation of the hit movie of “The Amazing Spider-Man”, was released on May 2.
In this movie, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) and his girlfriend/ sidekick Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone) are fresh out of high school. Peter carries on being Spider-Man even though he is haunted by the promise he made to Gwen’s father before he died in the first movie, to stay away from Gwen in order to protect her. The relationship between the two protagonists is tense, however bigger problems come to light as the movie progresses. Max Dillon, AKA Electro (Jamie Foxx), was once an average worker who just wanted to be noticed and appreciated. However, after surviving a major accident in an Oscorp laboratory he has vowed to reclaim the entire New York City electricity grid that he had designed with his newfound power to harness electricity to use to his advantage. On top of that, Peter’s childhood friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan)–who happens to be the heir of the Oscorp company–, asks him to find Spider-Man for him; thinking that the masked vigilante’s blood will save him from a genetic disease that is slowly killing him.
That alone is a lot for a teenager to deal with, and it doesn’t stop there. Peter also starts to learn more about his father’s experiments and why he ran away when Peter was just a little boy. It’s up to Peter, with help from Gwen of course, to put a stop to Electro and to save New York City.
Overall the movie was an incredible experience. The visual graphics for Electro’s powers were amazing, and the details in his physical design were very precise. Everything was believable, as believable as the Spider-Man universe can be at least. With all the intense action going on, the writers were able to slip in some good one-liners through Peter’s character, as well as a few heart-warming moments. The romance, action, and drama did not cancel each other out. The movie picks up where the last left off seamlessly, and hints that there may be a third movie in the future. “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” was a fantastic movie. Personally, I’d give it a rating of five radioactive spider bites out of five.
